Foam Core PVC

2008 NEC recognizes foam core PVC see section 352.10(G) (its called nonhomogenous PVC). Apparently this product bends differently from homogenous PVC - takes less heat.
Has anyone use this and how is it to work with?

The plumbers have been using it for years in my area. It is sorta like a Klondike bar. Hard on the outside and inside surfaces, and pretty soft on the inside. More or less has a "crust" on on the outside and the inside, and more like hard styrofoam under the crust. It does crack easily, I know that much. I dont' think I'll be using it myself, unless it's a really good cost savings. It is light, which might help people from an engineering standpoint.

It is lighter, warps in sunlight, and can be crunched when stepped on. Rated below SCH. 80. rbj

Same here. I believe we're talking about "cellular core" PVC, right?

It's much lighter than regular PVC for obvious reasons, and I'm sure the plumbers save money on it.

I've never used it but I've seen it at the supply house they usually stock it in 20' sections and it looks like thin walled PVC. I'm told companies that do utility work put it underground and cover it with concrete.

NEC allows it for use underground or encased in concrete. It available in Sch 40 and 80. Carlon does not make and was opposed to its use in the NEC, long proposal from them against.
