This is a follow up to Receptacle on Light Pole | Mike Holt's Forum .

Running a 120 volt circuit a distance of over 1800 feet would be impractical. The first several hundred feet would likely need 250 KCMIL wire, with the wire getting smaller as you go further down the line, in order to deal with VD issues.

Question: Can I order light poles and fixtures that are rated for 277 volts, and have the manufacturer install a step-down transformer (277V - 120V, single phase) and a receptacle into each light pole?

Re: pole with step down and receptacle, thats obviously a special order and not something a typical pole mfg (Valmont) does. Poles are always a long lead item with all the housing, street and cellular projects going on. Your question is best answered by a pole rep or mfg

Is this just one pole or several? If its just one, use a Sq D Mini Power Zone, it has primary, step down, and secondary panel. Mount next to your luminare pole, change this one pole to 240, take 120 for your receptacle, drive two ground rods and you are done.
This one is 7.5 KVA but there may be smaller ones/

We do a lot of Christmas tree tents for the big box stores, and we just use a step down transformer off the existing 480 volt wiring. Depending on what the load is, this may not be practical from an aesthetic point, as the transformer can get to be quite large. Some lighting manufacturers were using step down from 480 to 277 or 120 for the LED drivers, because 480 volt drivers were not available or cost efficient at the time.

I asked on the other thread, but apparently it was getting old..

What type loads are you looking to supply with the 120V receptacles? That will determine whether you need a 75,750, or 7500VA XF.
Are these receptacles below 8’? Or are they at the top for something like Christmas lighting?
