a 3 gang meter service, with a 100, amp main , and 2 -60 amp mains.
what size SE conductors are needed. it seems to me that i seen 6 meters
service with #2 SE conductors. i do not think we would add the sum of the mains, because it would not draw 220 amps at once.

thanks :?:

No. You do not add the rating of the breakers to get the service size.
You calculate the 3 loads per 220. Are these units 3 residential dwellings?
Why don't you list the loads and show the calculations.

yes bob, these are 3 residental units, one existing with a 100 amp main
800 sq ft, two new units detached, 900 sq ft ea.
900x3va 2700 va

3 app ckts 4500va
1 bath 1500 va
1 laundry 1500 va
1 dw 1500 va

this is the load per ea identical unit.
will have an 60 amp breaker for each unit.

thanks,

This is allowed by 230.90 Exception No. 3. :)

Providing as the other Bob mentioned the calculated load is below the conductor rating.

Hmmmm...this sounds eerily familar.. I doubt this question is for "instructional purposes only."

So my answer is the same. You should not attempt this work. Get someone more qualified to do the work, or at the very least have them supervise each and every step in the process. Otherwise, you are setting yourself up for serious problems.

Thanks for picking up on that, Peter.

I am going to put at least a temporary hold on this thread. jpmelen, if you are being asked a question by a supervisor or a class instructor, and are asking us to help you with the answer, then we will be glad to help. If on the other hand you are planning to do work on your own, work that you do not have the license to perform, then we cannot help you.

If you want this thread to be re-opened, you will have to send me a Private Message, and explain the circumstances.
