It is true that education has a high value but I must fall into a different category because I don't believe education is as important as it is hyped up to be. I believe work ethic, willingness to learn, ability to comprehend new ideas, and the capacity to stick with it has more merit than G.P.A. After all, once in the field, most are retrained to satisfy the needs of the industry they have chosen anyway.

Education only provides the foundation. It's what we are able to do with it that really matters.

I also knew a bartender with a masters in psychology.

At any rate, I think starting in engineering and switching majors after a year still beats the heck out of taking 6 years of psychology and then working as a bartender.

Most engineering grads are either working as engineers, or they have found high paying jobs in buisness management or sales.

Keep your child interested in learning. Give them fun hands-on projects. Encourage math and science classes. Then let nature take its course. You cannot be an engineer without the science and math background but with them, you can be many different kinds of engineer.
