For the romex haters

These pictures are older, I took them in Aug of 2004, so the permit would have been taken on the 2002 or even the 1999. It is in CT and I do not know when CT adopted the 2002 NEC.

OK thanks.:)

One other quick question about permitting.:)

Who or what permits a building to be built of a specific type of construction?

Chris

Here are a few more, I belive these ones are of temps. Kind of hard to tell.

Yes that is a panel fastened to the back of a free standing steel locker.

Connectors? Real men don't need no stinking connectors.

As for the first series of pics, I nearly blew chunks. Never have I seen such a throw-up of NM...and dedicated circuits or not, it would be interesting to get some thermal imaging of those trays to see the heat build-up, if any.

I wonder what the arc flash withstand of that cardboard is?

If I were to walk into this mess, two phone calls would take place: one to the fire marshal and the other to the Building and Safety dept.

I would apply as much presure as i could to get this job condemed. You can not under bid trash like this. Suspect someone getting paid under table in cash. Never in my life have seen anything like this.

Doesn't the supermarket chain have some project manager/field coordinator/field engineer that supervises construction and ensures compliance with the contract? Regardless of the governmental inspection side, I don't see why the owners would accept that sort of installation. Certainly the contract specified that the installation had to be compliant with the NEC and that's all that they need to force the contractor to do a cleaner install.

I am sure that would make the Supermarket chain we do a lot of work for very happy. It's none of my business anyway.

It's great that you work for the supermarket chain. It looks like there will be a lot of repair in the near future. Just make sure that you don't get blamed for problems created by the original install. Something like everything worked fine before you got here.

As much as it pains some of you guys here and most won't admit it, the problem in those pictures is not the romex. The problem is workmanship or rather the complete lack of it.

It is a 80,000 to 100,000 sq ft supermarket, we have used NM for these same stores but it has never looked like this.
At this point we use MC for these stores.

iWire,
Referring to the VERY NEAT Romex,
what is the rationale for doing this artwork?
Seems like it would cost way too much in time!

Are you asking about this other job?

If so that has nothing to do with me other then the fact a NJ electrical inspector emailed me those photos about 3 or 4 years ago and I posted them for him at ECN.

Care to share any picks of your NM & MC work?
