Are grid tied inverters forced or line commutated? What is the difference?

Basically the difference is in the circuit topology. In a line commutation design the grid connected inverter turns the gates on and the natural change in the sine wave from the utility is used to turn the gates off. In a forced commutation topology the gates are turning on and off by the inverter and it does not depend on the utility controlled sine wave. I believe all modern PV inverters are using forced commutation.
