In another post on this page it was mentioned that a member would rather pay a subscription fee for this site rather than join a certain organization. This made me wonder how many members would be willing to pay a subscription to access this forum?

I think the free time we spend here is enough of an "entrance fee."

Peter,

I don't equate "free time" spent here as an entrance fee. No one forces us to spend as much time here as we do. I'm talking $$. Just imagine that MHE could not keep this site running for whatever reason without charging a fee (server space is not free). How many of us would pay to join?

Joe

Maybe this would be a better poll question (HELP)

I suppose it all depends on how much this fee might be. Sometimes one bit of information is worth the cost of admission, so put me down as a "yes" for an entrance fee (within reason.)

That would be an unkind thing to suggest to the man who created this forum, and who pays for its operational costs out of his own pocket, since this is his way to give something back to the industry that has done so much for him.

I think Joe is simply posing the question as an "If you had to, would you?" scenario.

I kind of see it like Charlie.

You would not go to someones home for dinner and ask the other guests what the dinner would be worth if they had to pay for it.

Charlie,

I in NO WAY mean this to be disrepectful to Mike Holt. I am just hypothetically asking a question. In light of the current economic situation I do not see it as being far fetched either.

Zero. If this forum were unable to continue without people forking over a few bucks, another free forum would fill the gap.

Point taken. I should have posted something along the lines of "a site such as this' or "a site similar to this".

I know that you were not being disrespectful. But we don't always hear or read something in the spirit in which its speaker or author intended. I am not pretending to be able to predict Mike's thoughts about this concept. Rather, I am honoring and praising his commitment to give back to the industry.
