George, I think if they start giving tests to post on this site. You would deffinately weed out the DIY's if you are so tasked. I think you sure got Tall jumping through hoops, its almost painful to see.But nice work on both sides.

I dunno. It seemed like an interesting way to abuse switches and wires. What, you never do cross-word puzzles?!?

I came in very late on this one hope I do not look like a fool. 3 way switch has three poles and a 4 way switch has 4 poles.....that is the theory that I know.

I disagree with that.

IMO a 3 way is a one pole double throw.

A 4 way is an odd type of two pole switch

Yep. It's a DPDT switch that's been wired internally so the 5th and 6th terminals aren't needed and hence aren't visible.

You could easily make a 4 way switch with a DPDT switch by using 4 of the terminals (one for each conductor) and installing two jumpers on the unused terminals and the two used throw terminals. If I could draw it on this thing I would.

Inputs are 1 and 2, outputs are 3 and 4 (or vice versa -- doesn't much matter to me ...)

1 2
3 4
5 6

Jump 5 to 2 and 6 to 1.

I'll draw a picture if anyone still doesn't get it.

So, you gonna take another stab at my problem? :)

Why? You didn't take a stab at mine.

To be honest, I got lost somewhere in the giant written description of that mess -- draw me a schematic next time :)

Plus, I thought it was all fun and games, but some of the other posters here, uh, think it's not. I'll play the fool, but I'm nobody's fool ...

Here's the wiring diagram for anyone still following along at home --

Your picture looks purdier than mine. :)

That was done with something called "The GIMP", a free graphics program that's available for Windows, Linux and just about everything else. Plus, I've been drawing wiring diagrams since before you wuz borned, as I recall.

And you could have avoided that "California Hootenanny" with two lengths of 14/4.

Another one of those comments and I'll start calling you old. :D

Julie, I found the EMF post from Karl Riley I mentioned via PM. Here is a link to my post in the current EMF thread, quoting Karl's posts from a different thread. It bears relevance to the questionable methods employed by the "Buffet".

(Edit to add: My memory had the second post as a "migraine", I guess the woman was just unhappy about the sensation.)

George,

I saw that post because I'm too engrossed to get up off the sofa and go out for drinks.

I'm very skeptical of that account. Why? Because walking down a hallway (because it's narrow) would expose her to strong fields from any wires running over the ceiling or down the walls. Using a hair dryer, being in the same room with a washing machine or dryer, sticking her face in the fridge while running (because she'd be close to its motors), etc.

It's always the "correctable" problems. Wonder why that is?

I'm posting this here, because it will stay at the top of the screen for future use.

If you copy and paste the text next to each smiliey into your post, it will appear in your post. I keep these on my desktop for quick access.

The faces described in colons (like ) might not work all the time, but if you copy the IMG code above, those work every time.

Edit to add: If you have the most advanced text editor selected in your User Options, down at the bottom of the page, then you might be able to just drag pictures (such as these smilies) onto your posts. See if you can click and drag some of the smilies that are visible onto the field you type into when typing replies. It just might work.

Yes, we notice.

That user gets banned.

However the same person can register again with a new name.

It is my guess we have been targeted by automated software that registers and than post ads.

With a little Googling you can find that software is available for that purpose.

It is the new Spam.

We try to remove it ASAP but today I see four have been removed, seven yesterday.

Please do not click on the links as advertisers look at the click through rate.

just another sugestion

just another sugestion

hey, I have been asking for years.... getting back to the DIYers issue.. One more time.... It will still fall on def ears.. but here goes...

when in dout... dont check the spelling, REQUIRE code notation... for the question and the answer....

Personaly I dont want to know what you think... I want to know what you know.....
"yes it is Ok to use #14 pigtail to a 15A device on a 20a branch circut" any of you old timers to the board remember that thread... it went on for miles and weeks...
Well you can put a 15a rated outlet on a 20a branch circuit .. so it stands to reason...."

I was yelling for weeks for code refferences

some do some dont... If the moderators have a question as to the validity of a fourm user asking the question... THATS THE QUIZ / TEST that should be requested....

So even if he/she IS a DIYer... if they can produce code refferences to backup thier questions.... the brain trust should be obliged to answer... again with code refferences... After all ... all we want do do is to learn....
OPPS!!!!!
