You can understand why someone planted those trees though; it did look much better the old way... And in a few years time I bet those trees will be back!
I stongly disagree the only good those trees did was to shade that transformer and keeping the beautiful green paint from fading

Naaa. The paint's good for years.

But the labels, man! Think of the labels!

i dont really see the need for a temp pole, arnt they living in the house? Iv done several just like this. they just rip down the siding, frame up the new addition around the existing service. then at roughin install the new meter main , get temp power inspection, get poco to dig up old lateral and bring up in new meter main, then feed new ser back to old panelbox, rip out old service. the whole time the customers eating breakfast at the kitchen table. power should only be down 2-3 hrs.....now if the house is vacant I could see temp pole.

I agree, this is how we would handle it also.

The feed to the house goes right under the new addition. They don't have them in South Calinky, but we have things called frost footings under structures. They usually go down 48", sometimes 54", whereas the cable is probably only 24" down. So what's going to happen when the excavator shows up?

Yep that could be a problem...

South Calinky? we like being addressed as the FIRST state to secede from the union. (something that should happen again). anyway, good point about the frost footer, never heard of such a thing here descent climates

For those of you wondering why I installed a temp pole for this job:

Here's why:

Interesting foundation pour! I can only assume the they kept the
earth in place and will remain in place due to a shorter footer under the garage ?

Did you re-use existing power feed or run new wires to new garage? Did POCO connect temp power or that was on your dime?

I've run a 6/3 SO cord from the temp panel into the meter socket, and tied into the bottom of the meter socket to feed to panel. The old URD can be seen draped over the dirt to the left of the small bush in the middle of the image. The power was disconnected to the URD at the transformer so the excavator didn't have to worry about digging around it. If it was left in place, it would be hanging in mid-air diagonally across the excavation.

Telephone and Cable TV are also temped and strung along the house with the SO cord.

Once the garage is framed in, I'll install a meter-disconnect on it and refeed the panel from there.

The SO cord is on my dime... just charge it to the job!
