Local expanding 'burb built a new water tower in the middle of nowhere a couple years ago. I drove by it the other day and noticed something that gave me pause.

Why would a water tower need a 6-meter stack?

Thats a great looking tower. I have seen water towers with cell phone antennas. The different carriers all have there own service. Could be they are planning for the future. The meter packs sure give a better job than all the different meters stuck all around the site.

Good question, I also wonder where all those empty conduits go to. Even if they were for some future use, why would they be metered separate?

Maybe the additional 5 are for 5 possible area's in the tower that can be used by 5 different owners............:-?:grin:
 
The cell phone carriers don't like each other. They don't share. The city rents the space to them and makes a lot of cash...then they lower taxes.

I don't think that's happened since FDR.....:mad:
 
Future cell companies is likely. Notice the roll up door. The base of the tower is much smaller than the outside bottom.
Clever. Water Utilities will put reservoirs on the high ground, gravity works that way, so the reservoirs are in a good location to begin with.
 
The real question is, can you name all six cell companies that will use them?
AT&T, Sprint PCS, ............ ? name that tune.:smile:
Do you think they are using the water line as a grounding electrode :grin:

No matter you answered, you're probably wrong; at least two of them will have merged, or been bought, while you were typing your answer. Those folks aren't in the cell phone business, they're in the acquisition business.:cool: :)
 
Along with every one else the possibility of cell phone customers are an option. Most of the water towers I have seen have radio antennas for local, state and federal agencies. My brother who worked for Dayton power and light said that the FBI rented space for their communication antennas off one of their towers.
