Fridge on GFCI protection.

Out of curiosity. Has anyone ever seen a GFCI nuisance trip with no load on it? Nothing plugged in I mean.

Has anyone seen any problems with vending machines, some of them are like
fridges and have been required to be GFCI protected for about three years now under the 2005 NEC? I do know of a electrician who would not install a GFCI on them because he was worried about nuisance trip.

My two cents. 10-12 years ago my boss had a metal shop with several GFI cirucuits. He claims he had nuisances trips all the time and ended up removing all the GFI protection. Now he is a GFCI hater! I on the other hand have never seen a GFI trip without good reason. BTW In my shop at home every circuit is GFCI protected and I have never had a nuisance trip. This includes several motor loads. (2 window ACs, fridge, table saw, etc.)

Yes. Twice. Once, the device itself was faulty, and once, it wasn't hooked up right. You could push the reset button, and the test button would pop back out in a second or two. Man, were those nuisances!

The Leviton 7899-W can not be reset unless the internal 8 MA test is successful. This means not even momentary power output.
