The cost of spent nuclear is not shown in the KWH of your Bill, never called out but already exists...

Um, yes it is, the utilities own the spent fuel storage facilities and the costs to build and maintan those facilities is part of thier operating costs and determines your rates.

It's 5 o'clock some place and everyplace is getting 4-6 usable hours of Solar...

Solar? Really? Not even close to being a viable solution. Like it or not, nuclear is our best answer for now, until we figure out something better. Likely that will be fission.

I think it would useful to define Solar being discussed since there is quite a variety of "solar" projects available. Such as Solar -PV and Solar-thermal. Within solar thermal there is Dish-Engine concentrating solar power (CSP) technology, Parabolic trough designs, Power tower designs, etc. Speaking in generalities makes it difficult to stay on point.

Efficiencies of conversion vary on the system, but all are land intensive. This is one of the biggest hurdles using Solar, in general. I think the second detriment is fluctuation in availability.
