Cool, this will be a huge change for you.

I figure 10 - 70 mile trips per week you wasted about 14 hours per week on the road.

Now your on the road time went down to about 4.5 hours.

Take that with a 36 hour week and you gained about 14 hours a week to be with your family. :)

What's better than that?

Re: Frustration is getting the best of me, sad to say.

Scott,

I feel the exact same way you do alot of times during the daily grind of this industry, which I have been involved in for 25 years. I am currently 35 years old, and have been born and raised in this trade from my father. I have worked my way up from the "kid in the blue shirt with the broom" to the owner of an electrical/general contracting company in 2 states. The higher up you go, the more responsibilities that come with that position. It is definitely true when they say "only the strong survive". There isn't a day that goes by that I don't share the same sentiments as you at least once, but what truly keeps me going is my wife & son. Without my family I don't know what I would be doing today, but I always know for certain that no matter how horrible of a day I might have, I can always come home to them and their undying gratitude & love towards me. This it what keeps me going. Do not falter, Do not quit, Do not stop what you are doing, just because of a few bad experiences. Learn two fold from these experiences, and make yourself a better family man, a better individual, the best qualified in your position, and most importantly a better person for yourself, and your well being. Your exact thoughts were rampant in my head constantly, until I attended a high school graduation ceremony this year, and the valedictorian quoted the following words of Mother Teresa, in his speech:

People are unreasonable,
illogical, and self-centered,

LOVE THEM ANYWAY

If you do good, people will
accuse you of selfish,
ulterior motives,

DO GOOD ANYWAY

If you are successful, you win
false friends and true enemies,

SUCCEED ANYWAY

The good you do will
be forgotten tomorrow,

DO GOOD ANYWAY

Honesty and frankness
make you vulnerable,

BE HONEST AND FRANK ANYWAY

What you spent years building
may be destroyed overnight,

BUILD ANYWAY

People really need help but
may attack you if you help them,

HELP PEOPLE ANYWAY

Give the world the best you
have and you'll get kicked
in the teeth,

GIVE THE WORLD THE BEST YOU'VE GOT ANYWAY.

I am not claiming that the above will work for you, but what I am suggesting is that you find something that does. Don't give up what you truly love or don't give up searching for what you truly want, always with a smile on your face. Contact me anytime if you need to chat, and I hope that this post was a therapeutic for you as it was for me!

Hang in there. When I think all is bleakest I start to write down my priorities. Job priorities, life priorities. Then treat it like a project, "how do I build this?" The job thing is easy. Its a list of tasks.
The life thing isnt as easy. A mans ego is centered around what you do. If you acknowlege this you will realize what you do isnt what its all about. Your likes and dislikes are what really make you happy or not. Find something to center your life on that is not directly related to "what ya do" and ignore the other stuff.
Remember:
Rule #1 dont let the small stuff bug ya.
Rule #2 its all small stuff
Rule #3 refer to rule #1

Hello again everyone! :)

Just wanted to give all who replied to this topic a BIG THANKS!!!

Things were going abnormally crazy at the time of my posted message, but thankfully, now things are "in the midst of taking a 180? turn".

Once again, thanks everyone for the concerning replies!

p.s. to Nick: Yes, I am still using AutoCAD R14! I really need to get modern.
Fry's has an "LT" version of ACAD 2005, which may be suitable for installation on the fixed disk drive of one machine here :)

Re: Frustration is getting the best of me, sad to say.

Glad to hear all is getting better Scott. I think I shared some of my problems myself. Life sure can through a load at you sometimes. It get's difficult to hold on to. Some people on here may not like religious undertones on here, but it always helps to have something to hold on to. Sometimes it pays to just take that next step, even though your leg doesn't even want to move.

Best of luck to you Scott. And lets keep in mind everyone getting ready to take a beating by Hurricane Rita.

Scott, glad to hear things are better. Remember what they say it, dont get any better than this. As for myself I start back tomorrow. The last day I worked was June 17th. I am feeling better after 3 operations and lots of therapy. I am going to work for a contractor who is able to choose his work and they will not work for less than desireable GCs. We will see how it goes.
