That is a very broad question, and has many, many answers because there are many funadmentals.

But speaking very generally, here are a few:

1) All current must have a complete path.

2) An electrical system consists of 3 basic elements: a source of power, a controller, and a load.

3) There are two types of electrical faults: opens and shorts.

4) Current is always trying to return to its source, not the earth, and will take all available paths to return to the source.

5) There are 3, and only 3, electrical properties: resistance, capacitance, and inductance.
