Furry transformer. Not what you think. What is causing this?

I asked one of our guys to get me the transformer nameplate data off 3 single phase cans wired for 208Y/120V on the secondary. 12,470/7,200 primary as I am working on a short circuit and arc flash study for this building. These transformers are installed in a below grade vault.

I just got this pic from them. Anyone care to guess what is going on here?

Thanks,

Oh, btw, I think we're just going to replace all three cans at our earliest opportunity. We have new spares on hand. I've just never seen this before but we don't have many of these cans on campus. Only a few of our older buildings are fed this way. Most of our buildings are fed via traditional oil filled pad mounted "big green" boxes.

Oh, and the transformer primary for each of the 3 is 7,200 with secondary of 120V, again wired together for 208Y/120V.

I removed the photo. If you think there a need to show a photo of a dead animal, then please,
  1. Post that photo at some photo-sharing,
  2. Post a link in your thread that leads to that other site, and
  3. Warn the membership that the photo can be disturbing to see.

I really didn't need to see that image while I was eating breakfast.
