Are there any disadvantages to using fuse reducers? I am wanting to fuse a 400 amp disocnect down to 125 amps. I have a set now for a different job and not totally impressed with how tight they seem. I may be doing something wrong as well.
Thank You

Thank You

The few times I have looked into using them, they were very expensive. IT was actually not even worth trying to reuse the equipment I was trying to reuse. Maybe they were just trying to hose me, but check the price first.

Nothing wrong with them if they're installed according to their instructions and listing.

I generally have a better stock of fuse reducers than any of my local suppliers. We save any that come from old equipment we are replacing. Those and slugs for the grounded phase are about the most uncomfortable encounters we endure. Not even so much as a Good Morning or Thank You.

Fuse reducers are standard fare for PV supply-side connections 30A and under where you need a 60A disconnect because the AHJ considers it another service disconnect.
Of course that's smaller amperage than you're talking about.

We typically just fuse them at 40A and size the conductors accordingly.
