I would be willing to bet you could mess with the limits and force adj. all day and get nowhere. 98% of the time the printed circuit board has met its end, and for a lot of models there are no replacement parts.

the garage door is located in a house. its just a basic model. i believe the brand was overhead door: phantom

Check your force adjustment settings ( Dials on the side of the unit, analog). However, when you try to open or close the garage door, does the light on the unit blinks, on-off,indicating that over load is experienced ?. Other, thing is that let the unit cool off in between your operation fro better results with your force adjustment ifthat is the issue.
