I kind of like 48'' for garage receptacles but thats because you can put in work benchs and have the receptacles at a useable height.
Also like the idea of keeping them out of harms way from bumpers or car doors swinging into them.
I would guess the thought behind min. 18'' AFF is the same reasoning behind water heaters needing the burner up 18'' AFF to reduce the chance of gas fumes igniting. But it is probably best to put the garage door opener receptacle on the ceiling :roll:
