Garbage disposal GFCI location

I had an inspector flag a garbage disposal GFCI because the plug is in the wall under the cabinet. He said that it needs to be on the side of the cabinet or GFCI breakers in the main panel. I asked him for a code reference and he couldn't give me one, I didn't argue, as I know that won't help. He just told me that they don't want the home owner to have to reach all the way in the back of the sink to reset it. This is in Michigan so it would fall under the Michigan Residential Code, but I'm looking for any code reference for this that way I know for the future.

This code section is really subjected to the authority having jurisdiction call. The gfci needs to be readily accessible and the inspector can decide whether or not it is in a place that meets the definition.

It is not uncommon to allow the gfci if it is toward the front of the cabinet where a home owner can get to it easily
 
I have the same issue in a town I work in. I find it easier to just install a GFCI breaker and be done with it.

IMO, if you allow it to be mounted inside a standard kitchen cabinet, it should be able to be mounted anywhere inside that cabinet. Anyway you look at it, the homeowner is on their knees reaching inside cabinet to reset breaker

Any way you look at it, the HO is going to totally forget about it. So they'll be one the phone with you instead of on their knees.
 
The garbage disposal is making me chuckle. I hooked up a gen with a sub "emergency panel" for my cousin last year. The Last power outage she had was 3-4 days she called me and wanted to know why the disposal wasn't on the generator. What a world
