Local Gas Prices Expected To Surge As Supplies Tighten [FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]
Oil Price Information Service Sees Unprecedented "Panic"

Chattanooga gas prices are expected to surge as back-to-back hurricanes in the Gulf are decimating supplies, oil officials said. "The price we pay went up 50 cents earlier today and I would not be surprised if it goes up another dollar tonight,"

Panick is part of the problem. Every body brings all their cars tractors, lawn mowers, trucks, motorcycles and all the gas cans they can find. To try to beat the gas price. That just makes it worst.

I do not doubt anything any more, but in the worst or recent times I cannot recall price going up $1 overnight. That would put us at about $4.70 and we have barely ever been over $4.

yeah I'm not buying that "the sky is falling!" BS. Is the glass half full or is it half empty?

This is on top of the price per barrel falling to around $100. Now they can really make some money.

MSN was saying this price spike could go higher the the recent $4.11 record per gallon. Gas here has gone up 30-40 cents overnight already, and the storm is still approaching.

The oil companies, domestic and foreign, may just make me eat my earlier words. Gas is averaging 3.98 from 3.68 less than 48 hours ago. I even saw one at 4.15, easily .10 higher than our peak. I'm thankfull I filled up Wed.

Good time for OPEC to slash oil by 1/2 million barrels huh?
OPEC is sitting on a bunch of oil no one wants to buy. They're also seeing people buy less oil. Production has still outpaced consumption. The problems we have at the moment are related to surges in local demand (like hurricanes) and investors moving money from financial stocks to oil, which is why financial stocks have been shrinking and oil has been growing. It's also why oil prices went down so far so fast, ahead of the OPEC cut.

We need to get off of foriegn oil
Take out foreign and I agree!

They make a conversion kit for vans. I have looked and cant find a manufacturer who makes a van factory equipted as a ngv. They make a device to fuel vehicles from a standard home or commercial gas meter. I think it takes awhile to fill up.

Kenworth is planning an LNG fleet. Most other manufacturers have them, but they're limited availability, along with limited fuel source.

Well in Greenville, SC gas is way up....anywhere from $3.99-$5.50. It was $3.49 yesterday, and $3.22 on Tuesday. They did enact the state anti-gas gouging law, which means a whole lot of nothing, but hey, I feel better knowing they are watching out for us.:D

Anyway, we need to treat gas like we do power and natural gas. Lets regulate them. Eliminate the futures markets, and put a windfall tax on the traders and speculators...I'd say 99% of their profits. Gas stations would be able to mark up gasoline by "x" amount.

I believe in capitalism and all, but it is intended to be done on a level playing field. The current market is a far cry from level.
