if I have a No. 4/0AWG THHN that is my GEC for my water bond and so forth. Can this be pulled in a raceway such as EMT? (that way the exposed part outside is in a conduit) IF so do I have to bond the short piece of EMT somehow or is that only if it were bare copper?

thanks

While code complaint when installed per the section provided by Chris, it is really bad design. Why not a short section of SCH 80 instead?

If the 4/0 were bare would it not be legal to install it above a dropped ceiling without conduit? I am thinking commercial here.

so is #4 and larger. And you have 4/0 in the pipe.

Take a look at 250.64(B). This section requires that any grounding electrode conductor that is subject to physical damage be protected. One way to protect it would be to install the GEC in a SCH 80 PVC conduit.

Yes Sir, I agree with you.

How often do you have to secure a 4/0 GEC?:)

Chris

I don't know but I certainly wouldn't just lay it on the ceiling tiles. If there were steel I guess it would be easy. It also could be a distance away and it's a remo job and the op doesn't want to open up all the tiles.

We have not heard back from the op so....
