General question for you all. I have an existing project with a generator connected to (2) ATS's. Each ATS serves its own building. Client is wanting us to pull separate Utility feed for building #2 there and continue using generator and ATS's.

If building #1 loses power, gen kicks on, ATS#1 switches properly to E-Power... Will ATS #2 serving building #2 (Whos normal power is still available) transfer to E power or are ATS's smart enough to recognize normal power is still available and not transfer even if E-Power branch is live?

Client is looking for cheap solutions to their project. Ideally adding a second gen is not the best solution if we dont have to.

Thanks,

An ATS will not shift to its alternate supply if the normal supply is available. Whether or not it will shift back from alternate to normal when the normal supply returns is a matter of design choice. You can have a "normal seeking" ATS that will return to normal (perhaps after a delay) when the normal source returns, whether or not the alternate source is still available. You can instead have a "power seeking" ATS that will remain on the source it has, regardless of the availability of its other source, unless and until it is manually transferred. The later type would be preferred in circumstances where a loss of power, even for short transfer periods, is considered too disruptive.

An ATS sees power on the gen side every time the gen exercises. It doesn’t transfer because the utility power is still on.
