That was my point above, Bob. Also, since my earlier post, I've spoken to several cronies in the generation business and they assured me that ALL SE rated transfer switches have a utility disconnect. They could not be rated SE without one.

From the 2005 UL White book.

Transfer switches are required to be designed so that the load cannot remain simultaneously disconnected from both the normal and alternative sources when either or both sources are available, except that transfer switches marked, ??SUITABLE FOR USE AS SERVICE EQUIPMENT?? are provided with accessible means to independently disconnect both the normal and alternate sources.
IMO this requires an SE transfer switch to be equipped with disconnecting means.

Ronk also makes a service rated transferswitch, that anytime you switch from aux to utility or vice versa the switch automaticaly goes to the off position, you have to use a reset button to move the switch handle again.
