Generator grounding

I believe you are wrong. The "in compliance with 250.50" part means apply 250.50 to any electrodes at the generator (tie them together), not connect the generator electrode to the structure served GES.

NEC 2014 Section 250.30(C) code language does not mention what you say. Why would it mention just 250.50 which means whole 250.50 section which then includes building or structure served instead of part of the section like you are saying?

I stand by my previous comment. I admit the wording is not the best, but you have to think about these things more generally. You are stuck on your installation where the generator is fairly close to the building. What if the generator was 400 feet away? Do you think it would make sense to connect to the building served GES?

hmmmm.... NEC 2014 Section 250.30(C) would seem to say it makes sense. How come it does not say partial NEC 2014 Section 250.50?

NEC 2014 Section 250.50:

“250.50 Grounding Electrode System. All grounding electrodes in 250.52(A)(1) through (A)(7) that are present at each building or structure SERVED shall be bonded together ...”

NEC 2014 250.30(C):
“(C) Outdoor Source. If the source of separately derived system is located outside the building or structure supplied, a grounding electrode connection shall be made at the source location to one or more grounding electrodes in compliance with 250.50. In addition, the installation shall comply with 250.30(A) for grounded systems....”

See above quoted from NEC 2014. Yes it does
250.50 is saying every building/structure needs it's own GES

Your generator pad may not meet definitions of building/structure therefore may not need a GES per 250.50, but does per 250.30(C), and since it mentions 250.50 needs to follow the remaining rules set there.

So if I do Grounding electrode conductor from generator to building grounding electrode system it would not be ok then? It’s about 30 feet away.

As is often the case we have beat this poor horse to death. Its pretty much accepted that it's not a structure but the SDS needs a grounding electrode. Use the one at the pad if it meets Code or run 30 ft to the building or both.
It's one of those decision that may vary by job (30 ft away vs 300 ft away). I you are the AHJ, make the call, if you are not ask him/her.....per electrofelon post #47...Do whatever.. I;'m putting this poor beast go rest !
