Generator load imbalance override?

A standby generator is feeding a panel that serves large lighting loads. The generator shuts down while in use due to phase imbalances on the panel it serves. Circuits can be moved around to re-balance the loads, but they will be balanced only at night when the lights are on. Is there a setting within the generator typically to override phase imbalance and keep the unit running?

Is it really a load imbalance? Does the generator run on natural gas or propane? A lot of times it is a fuel starvation issue that shuts it down because of a heavy load. (Too small gas line/regulator) I had one large diesel generator that all of the sudden started doing it, turned out one cylinder was dead, so it didn’t have enough HP to run the load.
