Generator Platform vs Step

When generator base tanks get tall enough the internal components are not accessible I often see a platform with stairs built for accessibility.

Im looking at a generator now that just has a fold out step included in the base tank for access.

Is there any code or standard that would determine if a full platform is needed rather than jut a fold out step?

Just normal disco/ocd height limits and access.. other than that, you want it hidden for normal reasons. If its visible and some busybody doesnt want to see it, it could be a city code or landlord problem...
