question and alittle help please, nec art 695 generator: "shall be of sufficient capacity to allow normal starting and running of the motor driving the fire pump. let say we have a 50hp firepump (65amps) lock rotor is 363amps. that is the size of our generator. a tap ahead of the on site generator disconnect means is not required. just verifing. thank you

What about the jockey pump? Seems there is something about that also and any other associated equipment. I agree tap ahed of gen set not needed but looks like you may be looking at a 500-600 amp breaker.

There is a lot more to sizing the generator and breakers. First off, the maximum starting voltage dip for a fire pump is 15% this will drastically increase the size of the generator over that needed to run a "regular" motor of the same horse power. Also sizing of the generator's main line circuit breaker is not trivial. See this thread for more info:
