On a generator installation with a 200 amp manual transfer switch (it has an off position) and a 50 amp twist lock recessed plug to feed the transfer switch is the over current device in the generator sufficient for this set up.

The genset OCPD only limits the load that may be placed on the genset.Short circuit protection goes without saying.As long as the homeowner understands that there isn`t 200 amps available.

You`d be better off setting a generator panel and moving the loads because you`ll be getting some calls when the home owner turns on the stove water heater and so on........I know been there done it. Even if you label breakers to turn off they still will try it.Just my 02

A couple of trips out to the generator in the snow, wearing a robe and slippers, goes a long way to educating customers about power availability.

Show them how to reset the breaker, and explain that this is not covered under warranty. If they want to pay your emergency rate for this, fine.
