I have a customer who wants to prep by switching from 200 to 4 and half and half one of 200 A on a automatic transfer switch
Easy said it done, but he doesn’t know what Generator he’s gonna get…
I’ve never done a Kohler generator. I’ve only done Generac.
And I figured you have to use their transfer switch but is there like a universal or the intermingle? Can I use a Generac transfer on a cooler or could I use a Kohler on Generac?
No, in Generac and how picky they are they would avoid any warranty if someone else transfer just wondering

You can use a 2 wire start capable ATS, like a Kohler RDT (not RDX) as stated, or an Eaton or ABB if you’re into setting money on fire.

If you end up installing a Generac, you’ll have to get the 2-wire start kit for it.

I’m not aware of any warranty issues, and I think they would have a hard time justifying it, but I would reach out to the rep anyway.

If it is a Generac residential switch, or Generac residential generator, it will not work. Everybody BUT Generac uses a two wire start (a slight exception is Onan, but they use a third wire to power the switch electronics with DC, the rest, the switch is powered off utility or generator, depending on what’s live)

Generac ATS would be difficult to make work, but a Generac generator with any 2 wire start ATS is pretty simple to make work. You just get the 2 wire start kit from Generac.
