Here in CA it's illegal to have anything attached to you window. I spent an hour the other day trying to find places to mount mine and I find that right next to the rear view mirror is the best place as I don't really have to take my eyes off the road to look at it. Oh well.

Saw a thing in Target the other day that was actually just a heavy bean bag doughnut with a hard plastic bottom in it so you can attach the suction cup to and then you could sit anywhere on the dash or seat.

I have the Garmin 350.

Ah, the joys of living and working in my hometown. Most of the time, directions are short and sweet, and often unnecessary. The only peril around here is figuring out where Timberline and Timberline intersect, that's about the only time I've had to stop and call twice for directions. :)

I haven't figured out a rock-solid way for giving directions through round-abouts, though. "Go straight" just doesn't seem right.

A few years ago I was driving around Rhode Island at night, so I fully understand why y'all need GPS - screwy roads in your neck of the woods. :)

I was on one a while back, and what I had written down was 1632 Greenbriar. I knew the development pretty well, but what I didn't realize is that it had a section called "Greenbriar", where all the streets had "Greenbriar" in the name. Greenbriar Lane, Greenbriar Terrace, Greenbriar Circle, Greenbriar court, etc. Luckily, there was only one street with a 1632 on it. I took it as a personal challenge to see if there might only be one 1632 and resisted the urge to call. I know people really don't mind if you call for directions, but I think it might make me look like an idiot. I'd like to show up and have them have a good initial impression of me. If a guy can't find the house, what are his chances of being able to solve the problem? I don't know if people think that way or not, but I try not to call because I think that people might think that. I guess that's one of my weird hang-ups.

I have two customers with the same name and they sound very simular on the phone, two weeks ago I had to go and look at one of the homes for a problem, after taking the call on my cell phone, scheduled it for the next day, went to the wrong house because i didn't ask for the address (assuming is bad), Had to call the other lady and explain why i would be late (30 miles away) laughed a lot. Now that day I lost some time!

I have a magellan 760-the battery charger is terrible-Ive got 1/2 roll of electrical tape holding to my dash to keep contact, We also have some Garmann nuvi's-fantastic!

I use Microsoft Streets & Trips and a GPS locator with my laptop.

"you're costing me money!"

Oh thats me in the pasenger seat.

I used to have another type of navigation system.

But the cost was too high.

You use to have to wake it up though, or it would miss the turn. And you had to keep it fed and watered, give it health insurance, pay it a salary for little or no return on investment, and listen to it whine when its raining. ;)

I was using one, but got rid of it. I couldn't hear the voice over the road/engine noise, even at full blast. I need one with RCA outputs that I can pipe into the stereo. Nobody made one like that when last I checked.

My Garmin 340 hooks into the head unit through 3.5mm out put from garmmy to head aux input its cool to because i have mp3s built into the garmin and when it needs to give a direction it stops the music and restarts it .You could accomplish this with a tape adapter to.

Thanks a million. That's what I need to look into.

(assuming is bad)

Yes it is.

When I was an apprentice me and journyman head out to the sticks to install a feeder to a manufactured home. Single wide pride.

We drive up the unimproved road, population thin. Find the house and a trench from house to pedestal service. We lay conduit, pull in the feeder, make up the conductors, grab our gear and head for civilization.

So....The next day get a call from the customer wondering why his house has no power. Can you guess?

We connected the wrong house!!!

Someone got a freebie.

I bet Honolulu would blow the circuit breaker in a GPS. About 95 per cent of our streets (just a guess, no facts to back up my perception) start with the letter K and more or less sound about like each other. :D

The Garman 660 I have has bluetooth for a headset but better yet, can be picked up on your FM radio just like an IPOD.
I wouldnt leave home without it.

Really nice to take when going out of town too. Got me around LA real good.

i have the tom tom one XL works great. one thing, after it gets me to where i want to be and i hit the " done " button it is newer finished getting me there. it just keeps repeating directions for the last destination put in.

My Garmin Nuvi has the most sarcastic female voice that says "Recalculating" when you miss a turn for whatever reason.

They are not replacements for personal knowledge of the area. The filters do help but mine have sent me down, or attempted to, 4WD roads, closed roads, and into private drives with firearm symbols posted at the entry.

I have 4 differnent ones and the Nuvi is hands down the easiest to use for point A to B navigation. My wife will even ask to use it. Planning a route that includes all the stops is easiest on the laptop. The Nuvi does not keep track of your travels. One downside.
