Once he pinpointed the exact location of the problem area and it was diagnosed as the problem, his job was done. I gave the customer the option of digging up their lawn and rewiring it to code or fixing the issue. They chose to have it repaired.

You can only do so much. Just make note of their decision on their bill and your copy of it.
