gfci exception ?

Receptacles were installed in a covered exterior patio area, of a dwelling, to operate electric roll down screen panels. There is a dedicated plug in / cord connection from receptacle to screen motor. This is not readily accessable as recept's are 8 ft off floor. Would these be exempt from gfci protection ?

I would beleave it needs to be gfi protected. The fact that is not readly accessible doesn't matter, a receptacle for a garage door opener would need gfi protection

Is it an outdoor receptacle? If so GFCI protection is required. If the patio/porch is enclosed and you want to considerl it a living room, sunroom or similar area then the receptacles in the room had better meet 210.52 requirements and will also require AFCI protection.

Depending on your local codes you may have some exceptions to the NEC requirements, NC does but, I see you are a building inspector so you should have that information.

As far as the NEC is concerned, the others are correct.

What needs to be readily accessible? The GFCI device when used? How would one

go about christmas light recptacles or snow melting recptacles when they are in

the 2nd story soffitt? On/off operation might be by a switch.

There are exceptions for snow melting equipment but not for xmas lights that I know of.

The GFCI protection device has to be accessible. Not the device that is protected by the GFCI.

210.8 Ground-Fault Circuit-Interrupter Protection for Personnel.
Ground-fault circuit-interruption for personnel shall be provided as required in 210.8(A) through (C). The ground-fault circuit-interrupter shall be installed in a readily accessible location.
