I don't think anyone is arguing that the receptacles on the kitchen countertops don't need GFCI; we know that those receptacles do need GFCI. The issue is the receptacles in the living room, near the floor. There is no code requirement for them to be GFCI, even if they are within the reach of a 6 foot cord from the receptacle to the kitchen sink.

What is a wet bar?

IMO, I believe they slipped when they wrote this. What is the difference between a kitchen sink and a wet bar sink? How is a kitchen sink not as dangerous as a utility sink when you drop an appliance into it?

Can a kitchen sink not be used for mixing drinks?

Can a Nascar driver not also drive a minivan?
