Our safety office is on a GFCI kick, and want all drinking fountains to have a GFCI receptacle. A few of the shops have clothes washing machines, which they think need to have the GFCI receptacle as well. I am looking through the NEC for the exception for these, but just can't put my finger on it! Thanks for the help!

Re: GFCI protection

It isn't a matter of "exceptions," it is a matter of "an absence of rules." There are no rules that require GFCI in the locations you describe (presuming that I am correct in deducing this to be a "non-dwelling unit"). You can add all the GFCIs you want, but you will be doing more than the code requires. See 210.8(B) (2005 NEC).
