Actually ya never know.

My old inspector in a small town in southwest VA knows this forum.

Was getting a permit once and glanced at a wall and lo and behold what do I see: Charlie's Rule.

I was on a job several years back in Cedar Springs, Michigan. The inspector not only was a regular reader of the forums here, but was also familiar with my postings and remembered some of them, as my user name is a bit unusual.

He said he never posted here, but read the forums all the time. That's too bad. The guy was not only very knowledgeable, but had a great sense of humor, too.

I replaced a GFI receptacle. The existing one failed. The line side on the neutral had melted and the wire was discolored. The GFI is feeding a bathroom receptacle and a closet. The receptacle also has a refrigerator and freezer combo unit plugged into it. The wire connection was tight. The load is about 17 amps I'm guessing if the hair dryer and fridge are on at the same time. It is the plastic around the neutral terminal that melted .Do you have any idea why this happened? Thanks

The terminal was loose.

You [ might ] offer to have an Electrical Engineer render an official interpretation
on the matter, and whoever is incorrect, will pay for the professional interpretation. :D

I have actually called NFPA HQ in the past and gotten an "informal" interpretation on NEC code issues where inspectors and I have met an impasse. That does not always result in the inspector changing his comment or citation, but they do seem to consider an E-mail response from an NFPA employee to a code question
