Hey guys I need some help i need to know if i have a gfci and its enclosed in an object do i have to have access to that gfci? We need to start the pilots for the device and need answers fast.
 
I'm not sure I understand. What kind of object are you describing?

In general, however, if you have a GFCI device, it might trip someday. Someone is going to have to gain access to the device, in order to reset it. If that requires turning off and tagging out the object, and using a screwdriver to open the object, that would be inconvenient. But I don't think there is anything in the NEC to prohibit it.

Is that what you were asking?
 
yes pretty much thats what i needed but by any chance do you know where i can find out the actual code on that or if there is one cause we really cant start until we have hard evidence saying thats its ok or not we just dont want to waste our time on cutting holes and mounting if we dont have to
 
You are not going to find an NEC statement that declares what you describe as being acceptable. The NEC is not written that way. In general, if the NEC does not prohibit something, then it is permissible, as far as the NEC is concerned. But the NEC is not the only set of rules. For example, the NEC does not prohibit spray painting your neighbor?s car, but other regulations might. So do not be too quick to rely solely on the NEC.

The NEC?s rules about GFCI devices are in Article 210.8. But that only tells you when GFCI protection is needed.

The NEC is about safe installation and use of electrical energy. It is not about efficiency or convenience or happy customers. See Article 90.1(B).
