Then why NOT spend an extra $10 and install the GFCI in the first place regardless of the '08?
Every doctor's office that I've wired has had a handwasing sink in darned near every room. I always put in a GFCI near the sink. That sink counter receptacle is where they plug in those rechargable things they look up your snoz and in your ears with. Putting the GFCI there seemed like too much of a no-brainer to me, and not a soul is going to question it.

Not required. Some folks are content installing to minimum standards.

Thanks for the reply Ron. I have to say, I don't work by a minimum, and won't get into that as I did before and it got twisted in many different angles. Cowboy, I wasn't predicting the future, I guess I was stating maybe that I would of never asked that question and installed the GFCI without a second thought in the first place.

I admit I didn't know if it had to be hospital grade. Not exactly sure how that is dictated.

As for the OP, please, by all means, NEVER quit asking questions. That is what the forum is for!!!! I was not in ANY means trying to be sarcastic.

Work safe!!!!

I know, I was really just kidding. I find the better contractors always install GFI's where they think they should be instead of where they're required to be.

It's just that as an inspector if I told someone to install a GFI there I would catch all kinds of guff, because I can't come up with a code section.;)

garage outlet

garage outlet

does a outlet in the garage have to be gfci if it is being used to operate the garage door?
