I see a lot of installations where the feeder for a pool panel is fed from a GFI breaker. The pumps & light are connected to standard breakers. 680.23(A)(3) states that the gfci for the pool light has to be installed in the branch circuit supplying the light. I believe that this installation is not code compliant. If a gfci breaker were install in this panel for the pool light, would this make it code compliant ?

Pool lights have many requirements and GFCI is one of them. Art. 680.23.

I believe that it is okay to add the gfci in the branch circuit. The feeder GFCI does not meet the wording of the code.

It really depends on the light, and where it is - "Pool Light" may mean very different things depending on a number of factors. Each would warrent different discussion.
