Was this change the result of any reported incidents? Many of the GFCI expansions, such as in commercial kitchens, were put in despite no reports of problems or incidents.
GFI for sump pump??

210.8 was expanded to include 240V circuits, but I just looked it up and the new rules only apply to other than dwelling units it looks like.

I once looked up the ROP (or whatever it may be called now) and the only reason given was something to the effect of "we now have devices listed for the application". No mention of increased number of incidents or anything like that. We have had two pole GFCI's for a long time, I think they probably were talking about three pole GFCI's.
I tried looking for something recently and for some reason can't find these reports on NFPA site, probably not entering correct terminology in search, it should be there somewhere.
