went to add a recpt to an existing install.owner wanted one inside
so i broke the pcv apart and boxed it. removed the outside gfi and
used it inside. got all done and it wouldn't reset. disconn load side still
don't reset, put in new one still no reset ...:-?
i,m not so sure it was working before i got there but i got blamed..
now this is a multi wire cir, one swd and one for the outlet now i'm not
so sure a gfi will work with a shared neut everything is pig tailed
before i start opening things up anyone have issues with multies and gfi recpts

thanks

A GFCI receptacle will work on a MWBC. A MWBC is no different than the three wire service entrance conductors feeding the panel.

Sounds like you've either wired something wrong or you have a defective GFCI on your hands. I'd rather think you wired something wrong. The fact that this GFCI is on a MWBC is of no consequence if you wired it properly.

Sorry, but I don't think a GFIC works on multiwire. Louis

i cant believe 2 gfi's are no good...
something is going on, i'm goin back
and meter things
I only suggest this, because I've done this myself:

Wire a GFCI while the circuit's hot. GFCI won't reset. What's going on? Oops... looks like I tripped the breaker and never realized it. Reset breaker to provide power, and now the GFCI resets. Kind of a blonde moment, but it's happened to me. Just an idea.

Sorry again, I was thinking on a GFIC breaker for the multiwire.

Are you using those "cheap charlie" gfis from sunstar? That could also be your problem. I have have at least two to three not work right that were right out of the box. Not all in the same day but still it could have been your lucky day.

isnt it code, in a mwbc, all the neutrals have to be spliced together, in which, at the gfi, u would have to splice and have a pig tail for the nautrals?

the lines are pigtailed and the load neut separated
what do you mean mudshunk you turned the breaker
on and off and all was ok ??

I never said I turned it off. I said I accidentally tripped it when I was installing the GFCI hot, and didn't realize it. I had to reset it to get power to the freaking thing.
