I was wandering about whether you have to install a reg or GFI receptacle in a kitchen. This is at a buisness that has a small kitchen with a refrig, microwave a stove and a sink. The receptacle that needs to be installed is on opposite wall from counter top. Just not sure if you need to treat this as you would a commercial kitchen for like a food establishment.

210.8(B) covers non dwelling units and does mention kitchens in 2008 NEC. You will have to determine if it meets the definition of kitchen but from what you say it probably does.

GFCI receptacles are not required just GFCI protection - meaning it could be supplied by a GFCI circuit breaker or load side of another GFCI device could be providing the protection.

Just wanted to add that the definition of kitchen describes it as an area, which isn't necessarily the entire room.

But you are probably correct since the OP said it is a kitchen :p
