Hello All. This is my first post in this Forum. It has been a great source of information for me and others and I appreciate the time people take to help each other.

I would like to feed a subpanel in an attached garage using a 50 Amp double pole GFCI Breaker. I will have both 220 and 120 VAC circuits from the sub panel. I have discussed this with the inspector and it appears this is acceptable. My question is, the GFIC Breaker has only a 12 Ga pigtail lead coming off of the breaker. I ran 6 ga feed wires (2 hot, 1 Neutral, 1 Ground) to feed the sub. I don't understand how the 12 ga pigtail of the breaker is adequate for the rating of the breaker. What am I missing?
