Please allow me a "dumb question." In the context of our following the NEC, is an "official position" of the UL relevant at all?

If the NEC uses the words "listing instructions" or similar, I would think that the position of the listing agency carries a lot of weight on what that encompasses.

If you use a different NRTL, maybe you would need to get their opinion too?

From my limited experience of reading CMP statements in ROPs and ROCs, I would say UL's "official position" is quite relevant.

It seems that CMPs back UL and AHJs back CMPs IME. UL also has a member on a lot of the CMPs, lotsa clout.

UL is not the only NRTL, but still has a lot of clout.

Even when a different NRTL is used, the standards tested to are typically written by UL.
