Well, I might have heard of a fella who installed a new ceiling fixture to replace an existing that was supported only by the circa 1929 conductors. Seems he couldn't get the BX to bend into the new box, and he might have buried a splice in the ceiling.
 
I have a screen porch that I wired 25 years ago and the devices have regular plates. I have never had to change out a device. So now tell me why we have to put those ugly flip covers on a screen porch. I did my own experiment and should turn in a proposal. :happyyes:
 
When I refed most of the receptacles in my 1967 house (copper, no less - but no grounds) I never got around to stapling the romex to the bottom of the crawl space located floor joists. One of these days when I feel like crawling under the house. Not much head room, less than 3'. Could barely replace the old oil furnace when it died. Don't look in the attic.

I did refeed the original 100A 100% unprotected panel in a closet. Fed straight from the meter pan! Now have a NEMA 3R, 6 ckt panel beside the meter. That took some doing. Only a few circuits left. One day I will move the rest out and remove the panel. When we moved in the house had the one panel in the closet, we now have it plus three others and the 6 ckt panel at the meter. Oh, and one in the barn.

It's a lot better than the original stuff.

I've used those too. They even make them in hospital grade. Kind of settles the ground up or down myth! I know we are not supposed to discuss the up or down argument any more, but I just could not pass this by. I won't bring it up again-I promise!
 
For about a year I had my microwave receptacle circuit ran through the front of the panel. Kept forgetting to bring home a romex connector. Still haven't put the panel cover on, only been 8 years
 
My shed has no cover plates on.
One of my houses has "country" wiring in it to the point I will no longer work on it; stuff other people did before I got the house and "it works" but switched neuts., hot whites, packed boxs, etc. bad.
I do not pull inspections at my house other than service change.
 
First of all, I'm a renter, so that's my excuse for all of this I'm not allowed to change it.

I live in a probably 100 year old building that may have last seen the attention of an electrician sometime in the 1970s.

None of the three prong receptacles in my apartment are actually grounded. Probably it is mostly old K&T inside the walls. Each apartment is fed through an ancient (70 years old?) fused disconnect with screw-in fuses.

The Grounding Electrode System consists of a #6 GEC going to a ground clamp on the water pipe. That sounds okay, but the ground clamp has literally so much galvanic corrosion that you can't see the original shape of it anymore.

When I was 14, many eons ago, I held K4KKQ, Virginia Beach, VA.
My Arc-5 was powered by a 1250 V DC power supply,
going through linen wrapped bell wire.
What we didn't know could have killed us, as kids. ::slaphead::

Oh, my word! An Arc-5. I had one in high school. I made my own HV power supply and had to wind my own filament transformer for the mercury filled rectifier tube, 5V at I forget how many amps. I had to turn the filament on long before I needed HV to allow the mercury to vaporize.

I think I used 807's in the Arc-5. Sometimes I drove them so hard they glowed!

Had a BC-348 receiver. Still have it but long past working. Just can't throw it out. Compared to what's available now what I had back then is pre-historic.

oh man, this guy I know has some doozies.
installed a simpson panel volt meter right in a sub panel dead front and then tapped leads right to the bus.

got a wall-wart feeding a different circuits controls (through cheap thermo to ice-cube relay (currently hanging from open box) controlling base-b heats)

#2 al feeding 100a sub

ext cords various places should not be.

some permits neglected

extended a few non-grounded conductors 3 feet to a CBs in a sub panel but only extended 1 #4cu grounded.

extended SABC to new track light in kitchen

tapped bath circuit for adjacent room closet light

reed switch hidden in dart board cabinet frame fed through wall behind dart board into a box, fed by class 2 PS, controlling ice cube relay that controls spot lights that shine on board.
 
The ground/bond to my water pipe is not within 5' from where it enters the basement. It was wired that way when I bought it. That might have been legal at the time, don't know for sure.
There might just be a single conductor from a ceiling fan light to a wall switch that controls a receptacle. It was something that was supposed to be temporary but has sort of been forgot about, that is until now.:lol:
 
...how many of you guys back feed the panel with generator thru the dryer outlet ? :jawdrop:
