There's not really a need for this thread but I thought it might be polite to explain a change after over 1700 posts.

I'm going to be "disappearing" for awhile, disappearing from this site. . I was laidoff as a municipal [county] electrical inspector. . Last day was Oct 31. . I started back up with the tools Nov 7.

I had enough advance notice to sign some books [union] in Ohio. . I got called by Steubenville L#246 on Nov 5 and off I went. . I'm working at the Sammis First Energy plant along the Ohio River between E Liverpool and Steubenville. . So I'm away from home, had to get an apartment. . Turns out the shift is 7-12s, 5-12 expected, weekends offered. . I'll be working and sleeping for anywhere from 6 months to a year and a half.

I'm off today [Veterans Day] and not again until Thanksgiving. . Medina County dropped my medical insurance on my last working day so my current medical insurance is crossing my fingers [so far so good]. . I'm going to suckup every hour of the 7-12s until I qualify for medical thru my home local.

So I'll just be sleep, work, sleep, work, and drive home for a day every couple weeks. . I'll eventually be back here, but it'll be "awhile".

Good luck-don't get spoiled working on that power plant and 7-12s isn't that bad after a few weeks of gettin used to. Heck, i once bought a new boat and the next week went on 7-12s for a year and a half! everyday walking past the new boat in the driveway on my way to and from work! Hope you can get back to your original job when things pick back up??? tuna

You can get catastrophic insurance for short term, This would cover anything over 10,000.00 (depending what you want to pay). While this might seem ridiculous it could save you from financial devastation.

I don't think anyone can get use to this shift (accept you I guess)!!
I never did! I had some strenuous hours during security watch in the military, and I never got use to that!

Welcome to the darkside :) I'm currently on 6 12s. I will most likely work 8 months this year. I'm dropping that down to 5 months next year. I think you will like your new gig.

Sorry about the job loss, and happy to hear about making a boat load more money, at least for now.

12 hour shifts are only 1/2 the day, that is no excuse for not posting. I work at least 12 hours Monday - Friday and usually 8 or more on Saturdays...I still post here once in awhile.

If we do not hear from you soon, take care of yourself and we will look forward to hearing from you soon.
