Is anyone out there aware of an outlet (new product) that is designed to be mounted directly into a granite countertop.

I've never used one but I've heard of them. Personally, I wouldn't use one unless there were no other option, and I still wouldn't like it.

How about this gizmo?

It would be a pain in the neck to cut the hole but this is a well constructed unit... not sure if iit is available in T.R. or if one can simply change the outlet.

That can be used but it would not meet the requirement .. it plugs into an outlet and is listed as a power tap.

'Gizmo' plugs in with a cord..... 'snot legal.

I didn't do ANY research on that product...I just remembered it from days gone by.

HOWEVER.....
IF....
The requirements of 210.52(B) have been met ~ would the "pop-up" then be legal?

One day I will be so good I can cite code articles off the top of my head like some of you guys do around here. But alas, today is not that day. :D

If you don't have a copy of the NEC on your computer...get one.
Being able to spew code isn't that hard....once you memorized the book
Seriously though...playing along, locating the article and adding to the conversation WILL help you remember.

Is there a reason why you want to mount it in the granite? You can also mount it below (No more than 12 inches) the countertop --if the countertop doesn't extend more than six inches beyond the base of the countertop.

Thanks for the tease! :D

There was an assembly I came across a few years that was hard wired and popped up like this unit. Another inspector showed it to me on site and said it was UL approved. But I don't have any information on it and have never seen it since. The home it went into was over 40,000 square feet.

Why put it in the top? Can you mount it in the sides. Here is a great product for cabinets, They are TR now and can be used in the floor as a floor outlet-- Cost less than $20.00. Sillites.com
