My guess is one of two things will happen:
1) it will never get fixed
2) it will get fixed, but not have a GFCI or a bubble cover.
So far Marc's #1 is correct. No fix yet, so I dressed down an assistant manager (big manager has a back "owie") and pointed out to him that it wouldn't cost but $200 to have it fixed by a licensed electrician -- "which you ought to do" I added -- but it would cost them at least $2,000,000 if some child gets electrocuted. All this was while holding my 4 year old's hand...

I'll be shocked (ha ha) if it's fixed without me talking to them yet again. Not going to let it go though...

That does seem to be the trend the last 10-15 years or so. Keeps the install cost way down too. I recently finished up replacing the handhole covers on a couple dozen poles in a shopping center that were stolen, and many of the connections were all boogered up. I was told by the custodian of the shopping center that they've caught numerous RVers over the years hooked up to the lights.

It's a common occurence here in Baltimore City that light poles have the access covers missing, though not sure why, unless there being stolen for the aluminum. I guess they haven't firgured out how to steal the entire pole.

Anyway, the city has a quick fix to replace the covers; the openings are taped over with ( I swear this is true ) duct tape. And, in many cases the covers are still missing and the wiring -480- is exposed and/or accessible.

That's exactly why they are being stolen - the aluminum, for recycling.

Of course, thats when they aren't stealing wire from job sites.

We're having this problem in NYC as well. They're stealing the base covers for the aluminum, and some of the more unique poles are no longer manufactured.

Marc's a genius... It's fixed. No GFCI. No bubble cover.

Then they must be using a hot and EGC as any of the HDs I have worked on use straight 480 for the site poles.

Yikes!!

Gotta get the brakes fixed on my truck and stop using that pole at HD :D .
