Someone tell me how GFIs work. Do they sense the difference in live and neutral currents when leakage to ground occurs, and are they magnetic?

Re: Ground Fault Interrupters:

They're magnetic in the sense that a coil or coils are used to detect a current difference between line and neutral. Ground is actually not used. The theory is that if line and neutral current are not equal then current is traveling outside the intended circuit.
