ground wire in romex

installing smoke detectors in existing apartment buildings. using a plastic round cut in box. smokes do not have a ground wire. would it be required to terminate the ground wire from where it is fed from? such as a metal light j. box?

All ground wires need to be terminated. 250.148. The one at the end of the line does not if there is no means to ground it- such as the smoke detector.

Why would you not terminated it. If someone wants to continue that feed from the SD then the ground would be available.
