Grounding at pump location

I am going to be installing a short wave remote switch system to remotely control a water pump. The installation guide calls for a #10 wire run from the controllers to a "good earth ground". What would be the tolerance on reading of ohms on a ground that would qualify it as a "good earth ground"?

I would say anything less than a million ohms.

Look at this way. Any electrode you come up with will be sufficient for connecting a #10grounding electrode conductor to, regardless of the soil conditions. Don't over think it. Drive a ground rod, make the connection, and move on to more important things.
